The Art of Healing and the Psychology of Illness with Bernie Siegel, MD
The art of healing includes healing our lives and not just an individual’s dis-ease. Gleaned from experience over the past thirty years working with people who are confronting life’s difficulties, both physical and emotional, Bernie Siegel, MD outlines survival behavior patterns, as well as the role of love, hope, humor, spirituality, desire and intention in living a longer, happier life. A slide presentation will be presented to clarify the hidden symbolism involved in one’s self image, relationships and treatment choices. End of life issues will also be discussed to empower people to live fully and die free of conflict. Participants will have the opportunity to do drawings and participate in guided imagery to uncover unconscious symbolic messages. They will also be presented with thought provoking questions about life and its meaning. This presentation is recommended not only for those who have already confronted their mortality and life’s inevitable difficulties, but also for their families and loved ones. It is for those who want to learn about surviving life’s difficulties through the experience of others and not their own pain.
Over the past 30 years as an author, speaker, physician and surgeon, Bernie Siegel has touched many lives all over the planet. In 1978 he began talking about patient empowerment and the choice to live fully and die in peace with Exceptional Cancer Patients (ECaP), a specific form of individual and group therapy utilizing patients’ drawings, dreams, images and feelings. As a physician who has cared for and counseled innumerable people whose mortality has been threatened by an illness, Bernie embraces a philosophy of living and dying that stands at the forefront of the medical ethics and spiritual issues our society grapples with today. He continues to assist in the breaking of new ground in the field of healing, and personally struggling to live the message of kindness and love. Author of 10 books, his bestsellers include Love, Medicine & Miracles; Peace, Love & Healing; and How to Live Between Office Visits. A book of survivor stories, Faith, Hope & Healing, is scheduled for 2009 publication. Bernie resides in a suburb of New Haven, CT and his web site is http://www.BernieSiegelMD.com.
