Boost Your Immunity To Extend Your Life

Published:

Your immune system does a pretty good job of protecting you from disease and illness. Every once in a while a germ manages to get past it, however, and makes you sick. This isn’t to say your immune system failed. Rather, it’s an indication that its defenses could be stronger. Science has proven that when immunity is strong, people tend to live longer. So, just exactly how can you boost your immunity to extend your life?

4 Tips To Boost Your Immune System

Your immune system isn’t a single entity. Just as its name implies, it is a system with many parts that must all work together to protect you. This means you have several options for improving the way your immune system works.

Live a healthy lifestyle: It’s okay to have fun, but on the whole, you should strive to be healthy in all that you do. For instance, don’t smoke or do recreational drugs, and limit alcohol consumption to a minimum. Try to avoid stress as much as possible, and take time to enjoy life as often as you can. When you are happy, and your body is happy, your immune system does its job more effectively.

Eat right and exercise often: Anytime you want to improve your health, eating right and exercising is always the best way. For your immune system, eating a diet rich in a wide range of vitamins and minerals is key to helping it do its job efficiently. If you don’t feel you eat a balanced diet, you could always take a multi-vitamin to supplement your diet.

Getting plenty of exercise is also important in so many ways. It not only boosts your immune system, but you can also exercise to lose belly fat and maintain a healthy weight. There’s no need for extensive exercise programs or rigorous workout routines. Simply taking a walk at a brisk pace is enough to keep your immune system from getting sluggish.

Get plenty of sleep: If you think sleep is overrated, think again. Your body uses the time you spend sleeping to repair and heal itself from illness, disease and daily damage. When you don’t get at least seven hours of good sleep a night, your body can’t restore itself properly, which leads to a host of health problems. If you’re still not convinced that sleep is important, this article from Harvard discusses in detail the scary connection between poor sleep and chronic illness.

Build and maintain healthy relationships: In a study conducted by Ohio State University College of Medicine, researchers found that people with strong relationships with family and friends were healthier overall. Emotional well-being plays a big role in physical well-being, so make sure you take the time to stop and smell the roses, hug those you love and spend plenty of time with the ones that make you laugh.

If you tend to be someone who gets sick a lot, or if diseases seem to run in your family, take positive steps towards boosting your immunity to live a longer life.
