This bill would require licensure for more than 100 holistic healing modalities under the broad definition of “bodyworks" it contains — “Bodywork”, “bodyworks” or “”bodywork therapy”, the practice of a person who uses touch, words or directed movement to deepen awareness of patterns of movement in the body or the affectation of the human energy system or acupoints or Qi meridians of the human body.”
The bill would establish within the division of professional licensure a board of registration of massage therapy and bodyworks and it would consist of 7 members who would be appointed by the governor for 3 years. To become licensed you must have successfully completed a course of study at a licensed school that has been approved by the state. The state would determine the curriculum for the course of study.
This bill could put thousands of practitioners and teaching professionals out of business and on unemployment.
Please join us at Lobby Day, an event that has been organized by the Coalition of Holistic Healthcare Practitioners, which will give you an opportunity to meet with your senator and members of the Joint Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure where the bill now sits. You can explain your opposition, your concerns regarding the bill, and how it will affect you and your family.
Your voice will make a difference. The greater the turnout the greater the voice. Please join us and help stop S168.
