Twilight Actor Michael Sheen Pays Debt Worth £1 Million Of 900 Laid-Off Tata Steel Workers

by Business Today

Hollywood actor Michael Sheen has paid off £1 million in debt for 900 people impacted by Tata Steel’s blast furnace closure in Port Talbot, South Wales, which left 2,800 workers jobless five months ago. The actor, known for his roles in Amadeus, Twilight, and A Very Royal Scandal, among others, launched a debt acquisition initiative, personally investing £100,000 to buy and cancel debts instead of profiting from them. “I had no idea how this bizarre system worked, but it seemed like a good thing to do,” Sheen admitted, emphasizing that he did not have money to “throw around” but wanted the effort to be effective.

Steve Carell Tells Students Affected by Wildfires That Prom Tickets Are Paid for

by Andy Corbley, Good News Network

In a recorded video, A-list actor Steve Carell dropped in on several high schools around Los Angeles to give the seniors a very special announcement. The students probably thought it was a curious prank, or an AI-generated video, but they’d have been wrong. The announcement was that all the seniors’ prom tickets had been paid for by a nonprofit that Carell has personally worked alongside before. They asked him to lend an air of stardust to their announcement video, and Carell was all too happy to oblige. “Attention. Attention all seniors,” Carell said in the video, which beamed into the assembly halls of six schools in Altadena, California. “This is Steve Carell, with a very special announcement.”

Dramatic Fall In London’s Levels Of Deadly Pollutants After Ulez Expansion

by Matthew Taylor, The Guardian

People in London have been breathing significantly cleaner air since the expansion of the ultra low emission zone (Ulez), a study has found. Levels of deadly pollutants that are linked to a wide range of health problems – from cancer to impaired lung development, heart attacks to premature births – have dropped, with some of the biggest improvements coming in the capital’s most deprived areas. Sadiq Khan had faced severe opposition to the 2023 expansion of Ulez to outer London boroughs. But on Friday as the report was published, the mayor of London said the scheme had driven down pollution, taken old polluting cars off the roads and brought cleaner air to millions more people.

Host Of ‘Survivor’ Stuns Viewers With Respectful Gesture Toward Contestant With A Stutter

by Evan Porter, Upworthy

Reality TV isn’t usually the place you go to see great examples of kindness and empathy. But that’s exactly what happened on NBC just the other night in a brief moment of humanity wedged in-between all the usual conniving and backstabbing. Over 80 million people worldwide live with a stutter. It’s more common in childhood and many people will outgrow it as they get older, but millions of adults live with this speech disorder. One of them is a man named Mitch Guerra, who just so happens to be a contestant on the latest season of Survivor. Just his presence on the show is bringing so much awareness to an under-discussed and commonly misunderstood disability.
