Hatchings Of Two California Bald Eagle Chicks Delight Vast Livestream Audience

by Dani Anguiano, The Guardian

Over Easter weekend, thousands of people tuned in to celebrate something spectacular unfolding 145 feet up a pine tree in southern California’s San Bernardino national forest – the hatchings of two bald eagle chicks. Two eaglets were born to Jackie and Shadow, the southern California pair that have become avian celebrities thanks to the webcam that has livestreamed their activities since 2018. “It’s a lot of relief, a lot of joy. A lot of laughing and happy tears,” said Jenny Voisard, the media manager for Friends of Big Bear Valley, the environmental education non-profit that manages the live stream.

by Andy Corbley, Good News Network

Americans and Canadians been delighted with images of the Moon and Earth taken from onboard the Orion capsule as it took 4 astronauts into Lunar orbit for the first time since the Apollo program. Artemis II lifted off from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on April 1st, 2026, reached the Moon on the 5th, and transited the Moon’s far side on the 6th. On Monday, the mission marked the farthest point humans have ever traveled from the surface of Earth—about the width of the Lower 48—plus a quarter-million miles—from home.

Record 30,000 Endangered Central California Coast Coho Salmon Return To Mendocino Coast Rivers

by NOAA Fisheries

During the 2024–2025 spawning season, endangered Central California Coast coho salmon (CCC coho) migrated to Mendocino Coast rivers in numbers few scientists thought they would see in their careers. Monitoring teams estimated that more than 30,000 adult coho returned, double the previous season’s record-breaking return of 15,000 coho. These numbers represent a significant leap from the past decade, where as few as 3,000 fish returned annually. Several factors contributed to this surge.

12-Year-Old Girl Named A Hero For Running Into Burning Home To Save Brothers

by Benjamin Larweh, Tech Fixated

When the Richmond Hill, Georgia girl stepped off her school bus and saw flames tearing through the garage of her two-story home, she did not freeze. She did not wait for someone else to do something. She ran straight to the front door and started screaming. Her brothers had no idea the house was on fire. Her mother, Lisa Johnson, has since described the moment in words that capture exactly how close it came. “You can see the moment where she realised that her house was burning, and she ran to the front door and just screamed into the house, ‘Get out. The house is on fire. The house is on fire.’”

In A First, Renewables Beat Natural Gas On US Grid Last Month

by Dan McCarthy, Canary Media

It’s not an easy moment for renewable energy in the U.S., but the sector is still setting new records. Just look at what happened last month: Over the course of March, the nation got more electricity from renewables than it did from natural gas, which is typically the single-largest source of energy on the U.S. grid. It’s the first time renewables have bested the fossil fuel in the U.S. across an entire month, per data pulled from the think tank Ember. Meanwhile, emissions-free sources, a category that includes both renewables and nuclear, produced more than half of the nation’s electricity.
