‘One And Done’ Dose Of LSD Keeps Anxiety At Bay

by Jon Hamilton, NPR

A rigorous new study finds that a single dose of LSD can ease anxiety and depression for months. The study involved 198 adults with generalized anxiety disorder, or GAD, a disabling form of anxiety that affects about 1 in 10 people over the course of a year. Participants who got lower doses of LSD (25 or 50 micrograms) did no better than those who got a placebo. But people who received higher doses (100 or 200 micrograms) responded quickly, a team reports in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).

New Mexico Is The First State To Offer Free Child Care For Every Family

by Li Zhou, HuffPost

New Mexico is the first state that will offer free child care for every family — a move that could save households roughly $12,000 per year per child, according to an estimate from the Governor’s office. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced the policy — set to take effect in November — on Monday. “By investing in universal childcare, we are giving families financial relief, supporting our economy, and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to grow and thrive,” Lujan Grisham said in a press release.

This Shop Fixes Student Instruments For Free. Now, A Music Legend Is Chipping In

by Jonaki Mehta, NPR

At a warehouse in an industrial corridor of downtown Los Angeles, a handful of technicians are hunched over their brightly lit workstations, tinkering with saxophones, violins, and pianos. This facility is one of the only remaining publicly funded repair shops for musical instruments in the country. Thousands of cases lay neatly stacked across tall shelves, ready to be shipped to schools across the nation’s second largest school district, Los Angeles Unified (LAUSD). These district-owned instruments and the repairs are a free service to students here.

by Andy Corbley, Good News Network

For some, a 4 bedroom 3 bath with a basement theater, wrap-around deck, and two-car garage is the dream. For others, housing that’s quaint, that’s economical—even portable, is the aim. The market should provide options to everybody, and for those in the latter category of taste, a Dutch company is making little trailer-sized homes from the bosoms of  decommissioned wind turbines. Known as a Nestle—a play on words referring to the turbine component known as  a “nacelle”—this two room human hutch is surprisingly luminous and chic.
