“No pessimist ever discovered the secrets of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new heaven to the human spirit.” — Helen Keller
Crossroads, contradictions and ironies are recurring themes during the summer months. Choices may be exhilarating and at the same time also formidable. The appealing path of least resistance could suddenly offer up unforeseen challenges. The eventful summer season includes an important sign change for Jupiter, planetary retrogrades and two eclipses. Seize the opportunities. Relish each pleasure and learn from the obstacles. Whatever comes your way, embrace it fully.
The Sun in Cancer (June 21-July 21)
Summer begins before dawn on Sunday June 21st, with the Sun’s entry into Cancer. The summer solstice marks the maximum hours of daylight in the northern hemisphere. The illuminating light of the Sun is at its greatest power. The solstice horoscope is complicated, yet revealing. The nourishing Cancer Sun, a male archetype in a feminine water sign, is at odds with Neptune, Saturn and the waxing Moon. These challenging alignments mirror the uncertainties and pressures so many folks are feeling. Current apprehensions are powerfully motivating. We want to solve problems quickly.
This lively solstice is also Father’s Day here in the U.S.A. Good-natured fun is sustained throughout the day by a series of lunar aspects. The Sun’s testing angles suggest leaders are fearful or unclear when it comes to changing course. Growing numbers of people are ready to create a future they can believe in. Charting a new course falls upon the dreamers, creatives and idealists amongst us. The same principles apply to personal difficulties. Look to loving dads, friends, and mentors for guidance.
By Thursday the 24th of June, the Sun is exactly square to nebulous Neptune. On the same day Venus is in a sustaining trine with Saturn. Despite confusion and doubts, loyalties are solid. Karma is in play. Trusted allies command respect, but proceed cautiously. Take pains to be sure partners are informed and on board before acting.
The first full Moon of summer is exact during the evening of Monday, June 29th, making moonrise all the more impressive. The gritty Capricorn Moon stands opposite the Cancer Sun. Both lights are tested by Neptune and Saturn. The day’s conundrums include Mercury’s retrograde. Hearts and minds are in flux. The high energy, clarity and releases associated with many full Moons are tempered by cares, responsibilities and unpalatable options. A news flash can suddenly alter opinions and plans. However, Mercury’s proximity to Jupiter enables many souls to take changes in stride.
June closes with another notable event — Jupiter’s arrival in regal Leo. Robust, hearty living is supported. Dust off your creative talents and get ready for fun!
June closes with another notable event — Jupiter’s arrival in regal Leo. Robust, hearty living is supported. Dust off your creative talents and get ready for fun. Sunny self-confidence and happiness attract admirers as well as opportunities. Genuine leaders elevate the hopes and aspirations of their teams and fans. Let your inner light shine. A simple means of expanding your radiance is closing your eyes and breathing deeply and slowly into your solar plexus. Imagine nostrils at the heart center. Breathe in love and light, then slowly exhale the same. Regular practice increases the uplifting influence.
July opens under mellow skies. The quiet soon gives way to challenging influences. Slow down as the weekend nears. During the wee hours of Saturday, July 4th, fiery Mars overtakes Uranus. The explosive pairing increases risks of injury from machinery as well as sharp tools. A misstep could lead to serious injury. July 4th celebrants are advised to be extra careful while traveling. The same holds true around fireworks. The powerful conjunction also raises the potential for war. Enlightened individuals and their like-minded companions use the same cosmic energies for altruistic purposes. The cause of freedom is a good example. Hopeful trends take hold Saturday evening and linger into Sunday morning.
Monday the 6th of July sees the Cancer Sun testing Saturn. It is time for a realistic assessment of goals and relationships. Let go of whatever is no longer needed. On Tuesday the 7th, Neptune turns retrograde. The visionary planet of dreams and altruism appears to move backwards until early December. Raise your psychic antennae. A message from beyond can make a surprisingly strong and inspiring impact. On Thursday, July 9th, Venus’ arrival in Virgo could coincide with a long overdue reunion. Social intrigues multiply over the weekend of the 11th and 12th. Venus is nearing a tense square to Uranus. The aspect is exact on Monday morning July 13th. Fascinations may be intense but short-lived.
Dawn of Tuesday the 14th brings the Cancer new Moon. As a new achievement cycle begins, loyalties are intensely felt. Idealism is strong. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are fabulously aligned this week. By Tuesday July 21st, Jupiter’s expansive energies blend with these three outermost planets. This is a fertile period for planting seeds, planning gatherings, networking, orchestrating political movements or leaving cares behind and taking off on a travel adventure.
The Sun in Leo (July 22-21)
Leo Sun season begins on Wednesday, July 22nd. These are ordinarily the hottest days of summer. Travel enthusiasts and political junkies are enthused by the Sun’s pending conjunction with outspoken Jupiter. The fiery duo are given to oratory, and having fun. Both are also opposite Pluto, the planet of power and transformation. Discussions and debates sharpen in facts and impact. The end of the week brings uplifting news and enjoyable events. On Thursday the 23rd, Mercury stations and then resumes forward motion. Newfound realism combines with genuine good will, facilitating surprising new alliances and restoring others.
As the weekend of July 25-26 progresses, the Moon is waxing and mixed trends intensify. Saturn turns retrograde in Aries Sunday afternoon. A slowdown is advisable, even though the waxing Moon is accelerating the pace of life. Be extra considerate and aware of the impact your words and actions have on others.
The volatile Aquarius full Moon is exact on busy Wednesday, July 29. The Moon is conjunct Pluto while the opposing Sun is conjunct Jupiter. Secrets are likely to be outed. Differences of opinion are stark but the truth can no longer be ignored. Venus is at odds with Mars, potentially deepening divides. Use logic, focus on points of agreement, shared interests and benefits. Cooperation offers the greatest advantages. Following July’s multiple planetary changes and culminating full Moon, the late month skies are comparatively tranquil.
Calmer skies hold throughout the first week of August. During the afternoon of Thursday the 6th, Venus enters Libra. Good manners and refined tastes are prized. Loyalty, respect and fair play are promoted by the Leo Sun’s late night trine to Saturn. Mental Mercury arrives in Leo at midday on Sunday the 9th. Hardheaded types double down on obstinance. Savants, sensitive souls and clairvoyants may sense the approach of the summer eclipse season. But first, darling Venus lights up moods on Monday the 10th and Tuesday the 11th. Monday could see successful negotiations. Tuesday hosts an extremely active sky pattern. Expect to be busy and enjoying life immensely.
Bear in mind that eclipses often foreshadow unexpected developments. Campaigns launched just before or just after either a solar or lunar eclipse rarely proceed as conceptualized.
Bear in mind that eclipses often foreshadow unexpected developments. Campaigns launched just before or just after either a solar or lunar eclipse rarely proceed as conceptualized. The Leo new Moon/total solar eclipse is exact just after midday on Wednesday, August 12th. The revelatory nature of the eclipse is enhanced by Mercury’s stimulating, consciousness raising sextile to Uranus. Ensuing revelations lead to adjustments in thinking, goals and strategies. Luckily, an airy grand trine also is in play on the 12th. Freedom’s call is captivating. The eclipse shadow sweeps across Spain, a country that could face political changes as well as environmental pressures.
The weekend of August 15-16 is a fine one for a getaway. All the same, for those who prefer staying close to home, back yard get-togethers are also stellar. A lunar conjunction with Venus bodes well for Saturday night parties, concerts and other events. Nightfall Sunday ushers in a tricky Mars/Neptune square. Be alert to potential dangers posed by rough seas or weather conditions. Dangers quickly pass, in time for Monday the 17th’s agreeable trends. Monday’s midday hours delight.
The late week skies present several challenging moments. Thursday, August 20th could bring an inconvenient diversion, straining an existing relationship. Friday morning is an opportune time to make peace.
The Sun in Virgo (August 22-September 21)
After a solidly satisfying day, the night of Saturday the 22nd sees the Sun enter Virgo. There will be a great deal of reminiscing this weekend. It’s a good time to make amends or extend a kindness. We spend the following days under a waxing Moon. The tempo of life gradually increases. By Thursday, August 27th, the Sun is conjunct Mercury. Minds and senses are hyper alert. Just minutes after midnight on Friday the 28th, the Moon is full and partially eclipsed in Pisces. The opposing Sun, Mercury and Moon are all at odds with rebellious Uranus. A disclosure can be devastating for certain individuals. The likelihood of unexpected complications is immense. Stay humble, laugh at life’s ironies and most of all, be ready to improvise. I am reminded of Isabel Hickey’s prescient observation that “Uranus brings change for the better.”
September arrives with Mars testing Saturn, a reminder to carefully weigh efforts versus rewards. Sort out options and decide what needs to be reduced, removed or abandoned. On the morning of Tuesday, September 1st, a family member could require a pep talk or a course correcting reprimand. The early days of September have a lively feel. Many folks feel energized as the Labor Day holiday weekend approaches. Overall, the days are enjoyable.
Post holiday travel is complicated by Uranus’ retrograde turn on Thursday, September 10th. This is a day of many changes. Venus enters Scorpio, Mercury enters Libra and late at night the Moon is new in Virgo. The net effect can be dizzying. Nevertheless, a new activity cycle begins. What do you wish to accomplish this month? Clarity, determination and momentum increase over the weekend of the 12th and 13th. Mercury’s alignments with Pluto, Neptune and Uranus suggest that universal forces will conspire to help you reach your goals. On Monday, September 14th, the Sun’s sextile to Mars provides the raw energy to get things done.
Venus is at odds with Pluto the afternoon of Tuesday the 15th. Be wary of manipulative words, misrepresentations, subtle or overt coercions as well as veiled threats. A quest for trust and intimacy can be rewarding. Tuesday night’s Neptune/Pluto sextile highlights the power and potential of intentions. Personal pleas are effective. Social movements, charitable and progressive causes are championed.
Take a long hard look at what is going on around you later in the week. Mercury is at odds with Saturn early Friday morning, a reminder to commit fully to the projects and people you care about. The same aspect also makes it very clear there is only so much time and energy at anyone’s disposal. This could be the time to end a commitment or say no to a request.
Virgo season concludes with Monday, September 21st’s fine sextile between Mercury and Jupiter. Minds open. Hopes are elevated, optimism pervades meetings and conversations. Travel and learning are facilitated. Fans of autumn now eagerly await the coming equinox.
