Billie Eilish Donates $11.5 Million To Charity, Encourages Billionaires To Do The Same

by iHeartRadio

Billie Eilish was honoured at the WSJ Innovator Awards with the Music Innovator Award. During her acceptance speech she called on the world’s wealthiest people to donate part of their fortune to those in need. “We’re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark and people need empathy and help in our country,” Eilish said from the podium. “I’d say if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things and give it to some people that need it. Love you all, but there’s a few people in here that have a lot more money than me. If you are a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but give your money away, shorties.”

Maternal Deaths Have More Than Halved In The Last Forty Years

by Our World In Data

A woman dying when she is giving birth to her child is one of the greatest tragedies imaginable. Every year, 260,000 women die from pregnancy-related causes. This number rose to 322,000 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately, the world has made continuous progress, and such tragic deaths have become much rarer, as the chart shows. The WHO has published data since 1985. Since then, the number of maternal deaths has more than halved.

Kentucky Teacher-Of-The-Year Created A Prosthetic Hand For A Student Using School’s 3D Printing Lab

by Andy Corbley, Good News Network

Simply using corn-based bioplastic, a couple of screws, fishing line, and small rubber bands, an elementary school teacher turned himself into a hero. But he didn’t have to throw on a cape and mask, he only had to switch on his 3D printer. Scott Johnson, a STEA(rt)M-focused teacher at Red Cross Elementary School in Kentucky, noticed 4 years ago that one of his kindergarten students was missing a hand, and so had come into class wearing a rubber one. It had no function of its own, but the child just wore it for aesthetic purposes.

‘I’m So Excited’: Jesse Eisenberg Is Donating A Kidney To A Stranger

by Catherine Shoard, The Guardian

Jesse Eisenberg has revealed that he is donating a kidney to a stranger next month. The actor and director told NBC’s Today that he was “donating my kidney in six weeks” but wasn’t entirely sure of his motivation. “I don’t know why,” he said. “I got bitten by the blood donation bug. I’m doing an altruistic donation [in] mid-December. I’m so excited to do it.” Eisenberg, 42, added that he had first had the idea of organ donation while still alive around a decade ago but only recently set the process in motion. “It’s essentially risk-free and so needed,” he said. “I think people will realise that it’s a no-brainer, if you have the time and the inclination.”

World’s Largest Sailboat Moves Cargo Across Atlantic On Maiden Sustainable Voyage

by Andy Corbley, Good News Network

A French shipbuilder has brought back the sail and schooner to decarbonize low to mid volume shipping. Only historians can say how eager the world’s merchants marine were to replace frigates with steamships when the technology became available. Now after more than 200 years of industrialization, new priorities will dictate to some firms that it’s time to reverse that switch. The 450-foot-long Neoliner Origin was christened on October 13th when she made her maiden voyage from Nantes, on the coast of Brittany, to Baltimore, carrying a cargo of luxury goods and Renault cars that emitted 80% less carbon emissions.
