Gary Batton, Chief of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, sends a greeting from the Choctaw Nation recognizing Indigenous Peoples Day for 2023 along with the rest of the country, as a day to commemorate the history, sovereignty and culture of all Native people. It is a time to be thankful for their rights as a sovereign nation and time to reflect on what is needed to remain strong.
Study Shows You Don’t Have To Walk 10,000 Steps A Day For Health Benefits

Researchers found that walking 3,867 steps daily was enough to begin reducing the risk of dying from any cause, and that just 2,337 steps per day could help reduce the risk of dying from heart disease. That’s right: just over 2,300 steps a day can make a difference for your heart health. The results also showed that at the end of the day, small changes can make a big difference. Researchers found that with every extra 1,000 daily steps, there was a 15% decreased risk of dying from any cause.
The Recently Released KFF/Washington Post Trans Survey, The Most In-Depth, Representative Survey Of Transgender Adults Living In The U.S., Was Aimed At Providing A Deeper Understanding Of Trans People’s Experiences

At a time when issues around LGBTQ rights, including in health care, are at the forefront of national conversations, understanding trans people’s experiences and wellbeing is especially timely. The survey included interviews with 515 trans and gender non-conforming individuals and a comparison sample of 823 cisgender adults. Trans adults include those who identify as transgender or as a trans adult; cisgender (non-trans) adults include those do not identify as trans and their gender is the same as their sex assigned at birth.
10,000 Wild Oysters Released Onto Human-Made Reef Off Coast Of England

Oysters are essential for ocean health, filtering and cleaning the water and providing habitat and sustenance. Oyster reefs can also serve as storm and tidal barriers, prevent erosion and protect estuaries. One conservationist group, the UK’s Wild Oysters Project, has released 10,000 native oysters onto a human-made reef off the North East Coast of England with the purpose of removing pollutants and creating a new marine ecosystem.

The search for sustainable aviation fuel was once dominated by biofuel stakeholders, but the aviation industry could take off in a new direction that skips the plant-based middleperson in favor of a straight line from solar energy to liquid kerosene. In the latest development on that score, the Swiss institution ETH Zurich has just unveiled a new pilot-scale, all-in-one, solar powered process for converting water and carbon dioxide straight into jet fuel.
