Taking Good Care Of The Body You Have

Some things are out of your control, like your genes, but for the most part, you either enjoy a healthy lifestyle or you deal with pain and discomfort. If you have trouble sleeping or your mental focus isn’t what it once was, your problem may lie with what you are putting into your body and how you treat it. Instead of immediately reaching for prescription drugs to ease the pain, first try making changes to your diet and lifestyle so that you can enjoy a healthier pain-free existence.

Bad Habits

The nutritional requirements that you learned about in school and your doctor’s office as a child still hold true today. Once they leave home and head off to college, many young adults pick up bad habits. They eat the wrong foods, don’t get adequate rest and indulge in alcohol or recreational drugs. For the short term, this would not do permanent harm to the body. However, if these college-age bad habits take hold and you start to live on fast food takeout, abuse alcohol and drugs daily, and get only 5 or 6 hours of sleep a night, you’re not providing your body with what it needs to stay strong. You get tired at 2:00 in the afternoon, your focus level declines, you gain weight and you feel pain and discomfort.

A Healthy Diet

There are many foods that are good for your body, like green vegetables, fruits, beans, lean meat, fish, nuts and whole grains. Instead of ordering out and ingesting ingredients that can cause you harm, dine in. Even if your life is busy, try and set aside time to make sure that you and your family are eating a healthy diet. Foods high in fat and sugars can have costly effects on both your body and your wallet later on. This doesn’t mean that you can’t indulge in a piece of chocolate cake or enjoy your greasy chicken once in a while. In order to look good and feel good, you have to eat foods that are good for you.

Maybe It’s Just The Mattress

If you eat right and exercise regularly and you wake up each morning to body aches, it could be something as simple as your mattress. Not everyone needs the same support. Some people fall asleep with a softer mattress, some enjoy a firm mattress and others like memory foam. If you’ve had trouble falling asleep because you can’t seem to get comfortable and your mattress is more than 10 years old, it probably needs replacing.

Vacations

Today many people are so busy with their lives that they forego their vacation. If you have a high-stress job or are raising children, you need the vacation more than you know. It’s important to get away from the day-to-day stress of a high-pressure job or the responsibilities of raising a large family where you are constantly running from the moment you wake until you bedtime. It will reduce your level of stress and allow your body and your mind to unwind and take a breather, and might actually even prevent a possible heart attack or a stroke. Instead, learn how to take time out of your hectic schedule to enjoy your spouse, your children and take care of you.

Overweight

Being overweight takes its toll the body. The extra weight you’re carrying makes every step you take a strain on your joints and muscles, including your heart. If you’ve tried a million diets and they don’t work, you may need to look elsewhere for answers. Eating an entire box of cookies in one sitting isn’t a treat, it’s usually a cry for help. If you eat out of boredom, find a hobby to occupy your time. If you eat because you’re under a lot of stress due to a job, change it. If you feel stressed because you can’t meet your bills, cut back on the extras or take on a second job temporarily. The point is to find out what’s triggering your overindulgence in food.

See if these tips might help you improve your energy levels and overall quality of life.
