When Is The Right Time To Bloom?

Thoughts about procrastination and individuality.

Procrastination is such an easy way to hide our light. What we put off and avoid is normally what will make us feel best. Whether it is the mountain of work that we have to finish in order to take a deep breath or the dream that never unfolds, the decision to let ourselves live daily with something to weigh us down is a choice complicit with hiding.

In life, it is so easy to choose not to feel good. Unmet longings and hidden dreams create a safety net for our insecurities. My musings today are based on observing the unnatural world of monoculture farming that enlivens my senses in a particular way.

In Bulgaria, the sunflower fields start blooming with a single splash of color in a field of green. I wonder what makes that one sunflower come out that day? How would the sunflower feel if it was waiting for the right time to come out or comparing whether or not all the other sunflowers are ready and using that to dictate its own bloom? If all of the sunflowers chose to be like each other, would the field ever pop into the eventual picturesque amazing beauty of a sunflower field in full bloom? If it weren’t for that one bloom who only feels itself, its inherent need, its authentic desire to flower — to live to greet the sun as an equal — what would happen?

A scientist would probably say that it is only a matter of time. All seeds grow and blossom as part of the cycle of nature. Is the same true for human nature? By not shining, not meeting our dreams, not changing to accommodate our hidden wishes, are we procrastinating against the inevitable?  If we listen to our own inner tides and trust them, can we change a simple idea into perfect beauty? What would the world be like if more people trusted instincts, acted on inner needs and expressions, or chose to shine and be alive? Would the world change?

Many of us believe that Earth needs healing, and is being changed beyond redemption. But what do we do with these thoughts? Let them coalesce into procrastination, disconnect, separation and negativity? What if we chose again? What if we start to say, “Today I am going to bloom.” Perhaps I am going to dance down the street, hug a stranger or maybe even let someone else know my deepest dreams. Coming together, blooming together. What would that look like for the world and for our self? Would it be beautiful?

Here is your chance to imagine how you can become one with yourself and your hidden desire to shine. Really look at yourself and imagine all that you see, feel, taste, hear. Let your senses come alive with your own growth. Take this process a step further now, and physically change your structure.

If you are a jaw clencher, can you unclench, open your jaw, bring movement into it? If you have tense shoulders, can you move them down the back of your body away from your ears? If you hunch, can you unwind? If you tuck in your tailbone, can you stick it out? Just let yourself move in physical micro movements as you sit with your fantasy self.

Breathe in the energy of change and feel yourself as an awakened being. Be as big, as loud, as fluid, as open as you want. Get clear. What happens as you grow and imagine?
